Valentine’s day is coming up! Another occasion to let your sweet know how much you appreciate him/her and why you love them. You might even be thinking of treating your love to something special this year.

If you don’t want to choose the obvious (flowers, restaurant and the likes, which will probably be very expensive and if not, booked), have a look at the list below. Especially for you, we selected 10 original Valentine’s day ideas!

This might take some preparation in advance but take your sweetie on a scavenger hunt. Ask him/her to answer riddles to find the clues to items that you placed somewhere around town. The last item should give instructions that lead to your gift. It’s fun to just spend time together and watch your love get all excited as he/she is scavenging around town.

Go ice skating! If you own skates, gliding around at a public rink is often free. Bring a thermos of hot chocolate and marshmallows plus a sweet treat to share. Or plan to stop by a diner afterward to grab dessert and warm up.

Make a book about why you love your sweet and why you are thankful for him/her. This can be as easy as using a deck of cards and write a reason on each card. Punch vertical holes in the cards and tie or bid them together.

If you prefer buying a gift, go creative on a gift mission for two. Hit a bookstore or music store together, then split up. Your mission: Buy something you know your sweetie will love. Then wrap and exchange over lunch.

Surprise with a special getaway together. Make reservations at a bed and breakfast or hotel, ask for time off from work and pack your bags. Or, have a relaxing morning together. Then go to a favorite restaurant for lunch. The little bit of effort you put into it will pay off huge for weeks to come.

For some sunshine and heat in the middle of February go Dancing with the Stars on your love and test your own skills by taking a couples salsa dance class.

If possible, go on a date to a restaurant that you enjoyed when you first met. After you order your meal, take some time to write down favorite memories from the past year. Then share your lists.

Hide little heart candies in his/her shoes, coat, car, etc.

Write a poem and frame it. Or, if you are not feeling up to the task, punch out heart-shapes pieces and frame them. This can come from your love’s favourite book or choose words from the dictionary that describe your love!
